Great excitement this Sunday morning in Triolet for the Labor Party congress. The leader of the PTR, Dr. Navin Ramgoolam first asked the audience to observe a minute of silence in memory of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, deceased former Indian Prime Minister and Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the UN, he also deceased.

Dr. Navin Ramgoolam listed the 3 major problems that threaten our country:

  1. Drugs
  2. Corruption
  3. Nepotism

He dwelled on the Lam Shang Leen report and its damning conclusions for the MSM and the Jugnauths. He also recalled the Amsterdam boys episode. The 4 deputies at the time should go on a mission abroad. But what mission was it? The 4 deputies traveled with diplomatic passports. These same diplomatic passports were approved on a Friday afternoon by SAJ, then PM and on Saturday morning, it was Maya Hanoomanjee who was responsible for opening the Prime Minister’s office in order to have these 4 passports issued.

At the same time, the drug lords were ruling the roost in the country and were received with great fanfare at the Château de Réduit at the garden party.

In 2018, we are experiencing the same sad events with a sailboat which leaves the country without a hitch but which is boarded in Reunion with a large cargo of drugs. The Police Commissioner who signs the passport of a notorious trafficker – Mike Brasse, then Veer Lutchoomun, close to Power and brother of Sandhya Boygah, who is arrested at the airport with drugs, but no follow-up so far. And the Lam Shang Leen report implicates influential members of the Government.

Dr Navin Ramgoolam attacked MP S.Teeluckdharry for his escapades at the prison and demanded his resignation from the National Assembly. He also attacked the two other MPs, S.Callychurn and S.Ramkaun.

The PTR leader also questioned the legality of the `Task Force` set up by Pravind Jugnauth and sees it as a delaying tactic aimed at gaining time.

Dr.N.Ramgoolam also made a commitment, once in power, to ensure that all elected officials, Ministers and Prime Ministers, are checked at the airport.

The PTR leader also spoke about gas turbines worth Rs.8.6 billion, while the World Bank had pointed out that the CEB had exaggerated the peak demand and had not taken into consideration the percentage of renewable energy in the network of the CEB. We see big commissions in this deal. Dr.N.Ramgoolam also addressed the scandal at SBM with the disappearance of Rs.942 million. He said CEO Raj Dussoye is just a scapegoat, while SBM has a board of directors with Kee Cheong, Maunthoora and Ballah on it.

DR Navin Ramgoolam concluded his speech by calling for early general elections.
