It was in front of an enthusiastic crowd that Labor Party leader Dr Navin Ramgoolam delivered his speech focusing on the Lam Shang Leen report on drugs. He also recalled that it is when the Jugnauths are in power that drug trafficking proliferates the most. Since 1983, when drug traffickers declared that “government is in our hands” and were also present in large numbers at the Garden Party at Reduit that same year. He also recalled the episode of the Amsterdam Boys in December 1985 with the 4 government deputies, who had deserted the PTR a long time ago to swell the ranks of the MSM. Dr Navin Ramgoolam also wondered for what mission the 4 deputies had joined India and Holland,

Raouf Gulbul, MSM candidate for No.3 would have obtained Rs.9.7 Million in St.Pierre in the same constituency of Pravind Jugnauth. Dr. Navin Ramgoolam expressed his astonishment that R.Gulbul’s calls cannot be traced while Mauritius Telecom is tapping calls. He issued a severe warning against those responsible for Mauritius Telecom. Dr Navin Ramgoolam also criticized the government’s decision to appoint R.Gulbul to the GRA. The GRA was singled out by the Lam Shang Leen Commission for cases of money laundering. The Gulbul / MIchel Lee Shim axis was also mentioned by Dr Navin Ramgoolam and the multiple permits allocated to Boygah and Luthchoomun were denounced.

Regarding the implementation of the recommendations of the Lam Shang Leen report, DR.N.Ramgoolam believes that there is no desire to do so. The Ministerial Committee will only be a decoy in order to make people forget the report, because Pravind Jugnauth is afraid of by-elections because those incriminated would be forced to resign from parliament.

Dr Navin Ramgoolam demanded the resignation of Rubina Jaunbaucus following criticism of her in the Lam Shang Leen report.

Talking about gas turbines, Dr. Navin Ramgoolam estimated that the Nicolay turbines still have a few years of service, so why spend Rs.8.6 billion on new turbines? Could it be a question of commissions?

Dr Navin Ramgoolam ended his speech by repeating once again that the Labor Party will practice a policy of rupture once in Power.
