FALLOUT FROM THE COMMISSION ON DRUGS – PRAVIND PANIC

We suspected that the Government was not going to rush to put the real machinery in motion to follow up on the recommendations of the Lam Shang Leem Commission. Pravind Jugnauth panics. Here are the explanations in five points:

  1. Instead of taking action, Pravind Jugnauth tries to gain as much time as possible to allow collective memory to push the Commission’s report to the background.
  2. In the meantime, the members of the MSM and the Government who are blamed will have time to defend themselves before the Supreme Court and attention will be transferred to contesting the recommendations.
  3. To ward off the negative effects of a rapid and well-conducted investigation against those close to the Government whose names are cited in the Report, Pravind chose diversionary tactics. He sets up yet another body which he calls a `Task Force` to examine the contents of the Report and determine how the recommended investigations should be carried out and on whom. The President of this body is Navin Beekharry of the ICAC, so we can guess what will happen.
  4. Since the `Task Force` is there no further action will be taken in the meantime and it is only when the report of this body is published that the other steps will follow. So one investigation will follow another and so on. That’s the game.
  5. The ultimate objective is clear: We are based on the near certainty that the protests will succeed in favor of the members of the MSM concerned and that the recommendations of the Task Force will be such that the Government will not have to take measures which will undermine its continuity. This is what the Jugnauths want. And they control everything.

Conclusion: The report of the Commission on Drugs having had a boomerang effect against the Government itself, Pravind et al are now trying to trigger a series of actions which will serve to drown out its contents. So what the `dad` did with the `Rault` Report, the `piti` will do with the `Lam Shang Leem` Report.
